As part of his state visit to Germany, French President Macron visits Dresden and Moritzburg. He emphasizes the importance of Franco-German relations for Europe.

As part of his state visit to Germany, French President Emmanuel Macron will be visiting Dresden and neighboring Moritzburg on Monday. After laying a wreath at the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe in the morning (9.00 am) in Berlin, Macron will travel to Saxony together with Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier. There he will first be welcomed at Moritzburg Castle by Minister President Michael Kretschmer (CDU) (1.00 p.m.). In the evening, Macron will give a speech on European policy in front of the Frauenkirche in Dresden. Thousands of young people from Saxony, Poland, the Czech Republic and France are expected there.

Macron and his wife Brigitte began their almost three-day state visit in Berlin on Sunday. "Franco-German relations are indispensable and important for Europe," emphasized the French President at the start.

In Saxony, Macron's agenda also includes a lunch with representatives of the regional population and the Franco-German network "Generation Europe". He is also scheduled to visit the Fraunhofer Institute for Photonic Microsystems in Dresden (3 p.m.), where an expert discussion on artificial intelligence and the European microchip industry is planned.

This is the first state visit by a French president to Germany in 24 years. Unlike a working visit, a state visit always lasts several days and follows a set protocol, which includes, for example, a state banquet and a visit to at least one location outside the capital.
