Council in favor of a ban on advertising for the Bundeswehr in Zwickau - mayor against

The Mayor of Zwickau, Constance Arndt, has once again objected to the fact that the German Armed Forces are no longer allowed to advertise on municipal land in the city. This ban was decided by the city council.

"It is not easy for me to go against the decision of a parliament - in this case a municipal one," said Arndt (Bürger für Zwickau). However, she was convinced that the decision was unlawful, which is why she was forced to lodge an objection.

At the end of January, the majority of the city council voted in favor of a ban, whereupon Arndt filed her first objection. She criticized the decision as unlawful and detrimental to the city. In addition to financial losses, she also fears damage to Zwickau's image.

In addition, the decision could affect trust in cooperation with the Bundeswehr, for example in the event of flood disasters.

The city council stuck to its decision, however, and confirmed the advertising ban by a majority at a special meeting at the end of February. Now the legal supervisory authority - in this case the district administration - must examine whether the decision is lawful.
