Jörg Urban was confirmed in office at the party conference with 90.15%. Urban poses question of power for state elections.

Jörg Urban remains state leader of the AfD in Saxony. At a party conference in Glauchau (Zwickau district) on Friday evening, he was confirmed in office with 90.15 percent of the vote. 183 delegates voted for Urban, 20 voted against him and there were 4 abstentions. He had no opponent in the vote.

Urban, who studied hydraulic engineering, has been at the helm of the state association, which is classified by the State Office for the Protection of the Constitution as a "secure right-wing extremist organization", since 2018. In the previous board election two years ago, he received 88.4% approval. Urban is also chairman of the state parliamentary group and his party's lead candidate for the state elections in September.

The aim is for the AfD to emerge as the strongest force in the state elections, Urban explained in his candidacy speech: "And we will pose the question of power."
