The Saxon Left Party is dependent on every vote in the state elections. They are currently below the five percent threshold in the polls. Now the Animal Protection Party is coming to the rescue.

The Saxon Left Party is receiving support from the Mensch Umwelt Tierschutz (Animal Protection Party) for the state elections on September 1. The party was not admitted to the Saxony elections for formal reasons and has now issued a recommendation to its fellow campaigners to vote for the Left Party and its lead candidate Susanne Schaper.

Beforehand, the Animal Protection Party said it had analyzed the programmes of other parties. "Only the Greens and the Left Party have detailed ideas on how animal suffering and exploitation can be reduced," it said in a statement. However, animal rights positions can only be found in rudimentary form in both parties.

Animal Welfare Party: Left Party depends on every vote

"The Left Party is urgently needed in the Saxon state parliament and depends on every vote," emphasized Marcel Krohn, Co-Federal Chairman of the Animal Welfare Party. "Anyone who sees social justice, social diversity and a consistent commitment to human rights as essential cornerstones of political decisions, but at the same time wants real progress in the area of environmental and animal protection, could therefore make a sensible decision to vote for Susanne Schaper in the Saxon state parliament elections this time," the statement reads.

Schaper expressed her thanks for the support. "The support of the Animal Welfare Party strengthens our resolve to continue fighting for animal rights and animal welfare together in the upcoming Saxon state parliament," she said.

The Animal Welfare Party received 1.4 percent of the vote in Saxony in the 2024 European elections. It is a member of "The Left" group in the European Parliament, the same group as Die Linke. The Left Party is just below the five percent threshold in current state election polls. In this case, they would only re-enter parliament with their list if they won two direct mandates. In the 2019 state election, the Left Party received 10.4 percent and the Animal Protection Party 1.5 percent.
