The heads of the federal states will discuss the political situation after the federal elections at the Minister Presidents' Conference on Wednesday. The conference is currently being chaired by Saxony's Minister President Michael Kretschmer (CDU).
During the exploratory talks for a possible new federal government, the CDU/CSU and SPD had agreed to allow much more debt for armaments and infrastructure and also to give the federal states more financial leeway. The federal states would have to agree to this with a two-thirds majority in the Bundesrat.
The state premiers also want to discuss hospital reform and improvements in care. Other topics on the agenda include artificial intelligence, fuel supply and critical infrastructure. The states want to sign a funding agreement for the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation with Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD).
Saxony's Minister President Kretschmer and his Lower Saxony counterpart Stephan Weil (SPD) want to report on the results at a press conference in the afternoon (2.30 pm).
