The Minister Presidents of Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt, Michael Kretschmer and Reiner Haseloff (both CDU), believe that the future coalition in the federal government still needs a lot of convincing in order to gain the trust of the people. Kretschmer said on Deutschlandfunk radio that trust in democracy had been shaken, partly because many actors were feeding destruction, but also due to an inability to solve problems.
He therefore advised: "Let's not make any big speeches or big announcements. Instead, let's work hard now." Then there could be successes in six months or a year's time and trust would return.
Haseloff said on ARD's "Morgenmagazin" that one should not expect a change of mood immediately after the presentation of the coalition agreement between the CDU/CSU and SPD. However, from the CDU politician's point of view, the future coalition partners do not have much time either. "If they don't deliver now, then it will be problematic," said Haseloff. "You really have to convince now by implementing," he added.
