The conservative Heimatunion in the CDU in Saxony is calling for a members' vote on the coalition agreement with the SPD in the federal government. "Friedrich Merz was elected party leader in a members' vote. He should now have the courage to have his negotiation results evaluated by the members of the Union parties," explained Heimatunion leader Sven Eppinger. Approval of the coalition agreement would lay a stable foundation for his government.
"The course of both the exploratory talks and the coalition negotiations between the CDU, CSU and SPD has greatly unsettled many members of the CDU/CSU parties. Election promises were broken. In some places, the impression arose that the CDU and CSU had allowed themselves to be shown up by the SPD, which was only about half as strong," emphasized Eppinger. There were indications that positions of the CDU election program were not adequately taken into account in the coalition agreement on core issues.
