The head of the SPD in Saxony, Henning Homann, believes that the formation of a new state government before Christmas is possible. The negotiations with the CDU will be difficult because there are different positions on many points, Homann told the "Freie Presse" newspaper. "But if we make an effort and manage to focus on Saxony, forming a government before Christmas is conceivable."
After the failed exploratory talks with the BSW, the CDU and SPD now want to talk about forming a minority government. "The situation in Saxony is very serious. All parties are now well advised to get out of their trenches and think together about how we can tackle the problems in the state," said Homann. "This is also a great opportunity. A minority government would make it possible to get out of these rituals between government and opposition in the state parliament and seek majorities more strongly through content."
