Refugees living in Saxony are worried about their future following the results of the federal election. More than half of voters had voted in favor of a tougher migration policy and more isolation, she said in a letter distributed by the Saxon Refugee Council. "The situation has been serious for a long time and is becoming increasingly serious - not just for us refugees."
At the same time, the appeal calls for more co-determination. "Around 10 million people, 14 percent of the adult population, live here, work here, are affected by all processes here, but have no say in the direction in which politics should develop," the affected people made clear. Their voices are barely heard - "and when they are, they are often distorted or under pressure to justify themselves".
"If we had a voice, perhaps we would all be a little more able to meet at eye level, to argue when necessary in order to ultimately arrive at solutions that take a broader perspective into account. But we
have hardly a voice and have to live with what society decides about us - and where democratic participation of all does not take place, sooner or later the rule of a few becomes concentrated," it said.
