The CDU is not seeking to continue the coalition in Saxony with the Greens. "If there is another option, the cooperation with the Greens will end," said the chairman of the state parliamentary group, Christian Hartmann, to the Chemnitz newspaper "Freie Presse" (online). Tensions with the Greens in particular had increased significantly in recent months. "I believe that it would be better for the country and everyone involved if we could find a stable two-party alliance again," he said. "Ultimately, however, that is for the voters alone to decide." However, anyone who does not want the current coalition to continue "must not vote AfD", but must vote for the CDU.
In a three-party alliance - the CDU has been governing with the SPD and Alliance 90/The Greens since 2019 - it is always difficult due to different interests and points of view, said Hartmann. "It's not easy to find solutions - especially when one partner is big and two are very small and always have to work out their own importance." Sometimes the coalition partners lacked a little reflection on the overall situation in the country. Such an understanding would have been helpful. "But tough wrangling is part of a coalition that was not a love match; we were not happy with everything."
With a view to the state elections on 1 September, Hartmann emphasized that for the CDU it was "quite clear that there will be no coalition or cooperation with the AfD" - the same applied to the Left.
