The potential coalition partners for a new government in Saxony do not want to rush into anything. Further talks have been agreed before coalition negotiations take place.

After an initial three-way meeting, the CDU, the Sahra Wagenknecht coalition (BSW) and the SPD have agreed to hold further talks as potential partners in a new coalition in Saxony. There is still no talk of exploratory talks or coalition negotiations. Representatives of the three parties each sent five representatives to the first joint meeting in this constellation. According to information from negotiating circles, the meeting lasted six hours.

In Saxony, the new state parliament will be constituted on October 1. From this date, the potential coalition partners will have four months to forge an alliance and have the state parliament elect the prime minister. As February 1, 2025 falls on a Saturday, the following Monday (February 3) would be the latest date. Otherwise, a new election is due.
