The cooperative food retailer Konsum Leipzig recorded sales of over 200 million euros and an increase of 30,000 members in the last financial year.

The cooperative food retailer Konsum Leipzig recorded higher sales and additional members in the past financial year. Turnover exceeded 200 million euros for the first time in 2023, up ten percent on the previous year, the Konsum cooperative announced on Wednesday. Despite global political and economic turbulence as well as higher energy and food prices, the year was successful, said CEO Dirk Thärichen. The cooperative principle is attractive and appeals to people across all generations.

At around 21 million euros, member sales accounted for more than ten percent of total sales and increased by more than eleven percent compared to the previous year. In addition, members spend almost twice as much per purchase as the average purchase value of all customers. The annual result before employee bonuses and member refunds amounted to more than 2 million euros.

At the beginning of June, the number of members had grown to 30,000. The introduction of the consumer app in particular accelerated this growth. According to the Cartel Office, Konsum Leipzig operates around 60 predominantly small-scale food retail locations in Leipzig, Halle and the surrounding area. There is also an online delivery service, although this only accounts for a very small proportion of sales.
