Jens Härtel is to become the new coach at FC Erzgebirge Aue. The 55-year-old, who was with Eintracht Braunschweig until October 2023, will take up his post on January 2. "I'm looking forward to the new task, to a team with potential, the Kumpelverein with ambitions and a whole region with heart and soul," said Härtel.
He is keeping his fingers crossed for the team for the remaining games this year and will be following the games in Sandhausen and against TSV 1860 Munich very closely. Jörg Emmerich will be in charge of the team until Härtel's debut; the assistant took over after Aue parted ways with head coach Pavel Dotchev, but was unable to stop the negative trend. Aue recently conceded three defeats in a row.
Contract in Braunschweig was terminated.
Härtel's contract with Braunschweig was terminated at the end of the year in favor of his commitment to Lößnitztal, according to the club's statement. Härtel took over Eintracht in the summer of 2023, but did not play more than eleven games. He had signed a two-year contract at the time.
"We are very proud to have convinced a coach of the caliber of Jens Härtel of the prospects at FC Erzgebirge Aue. He has our full backing and support, and with this personnel decision, our friendly club has set the course for a successful future in view of our 80th club anniversary," said Aue's president Roland Frötschner. Härtel has also previously coached the traditional East German clubs 1. FC Magdeburg and Hansa Rostock.
