The SC DHfK Leipzig handball team have suffered their fourth consecutive defeat in the Bundesliga. The team of coach Runar Sigtryggsson lost 28:32 (15:18) to THW Kiel in front of 6,000 spectators. SC DHfK's best scorer was Lukas Binder with eight goals, while Bence Imre also scored eight times for the record champions.
The club from Leipzig set a high tempo from the outset and led 3:2 after two-and-a-half minutes. However, the home side subsequently missed more and more shots, which Kiel exploited to produce a 4:0 run to make it 6:3 in the 6th minute. THW pulled 12:7 ahead by the 15th minute because it reliably found good solutions in attack against SC DHfK's attacking defense. Goalkeeper Tomas Mrkva, who will play for Leipzig from next summer, also put in an excellent performance in the first half. After a timeout by Sigtryggsson, the home side stabilized in defense and developed more penetration in offense. William Bogojevic pulled his team back to 12:13 in the 22nd minute, but Kiel remained composed and extended its lead again by the break.
The club from Leipzig immediately found its rhythm in offense in the second half and repeatedly caught the record champions off guard with its quick center. They turned a 20:23 deficit (40') into a 25:24 lead (47'). However, a red card for Simon Ernst (48) caused a break in the home side's play. They got bogged down in individual actions, while Kiel patiently played out its attacks. The record champions produced a 6:0 run to make it 30:25 in the 57th minute and ultimately celebrated their fifth league victory in a row.
