Bundesliga handball team SC Magdeburg will have to do without their usual crowd for the second leg of the Champions League round of 16. The GETEC Arena is full and the team from the city on the Elbe will play in Dessau instead.

SC Magdeburg must travel to Dessau for the second leg of the Champions League round of 16. According to the club, the match against Romanian representative Dinamo Bucharest will kick off on April 2 at 8:45 p.m. in the Anhalt Arena.

"It is of course an unfortunate and unsatisfactory situation that we cannot play our home game in the important Champions League play-off second leg in the GETEC Arena," said managing director Marc-Henrik Schmedt. The Magdeburg arena has been booked for the "Holiday on Ice" production for two years and is therefore not available. The European Handball Federation had rejected the request to move the game to April 8, Schmedt continued.

The Anhalt Arena in Dessau is the second largest sports hall in the state. However, it only holds 2,700 spectators and is normally the home ground of second division club Dessau-Roßlauer HV.
