Marco Rose has one year left on his contract at RB Leipzig and has achieved two of his three goals for the season. Now Milan are apparently interested. The coach refrains from a denial.

RB Leipzig coach Marco Rose has not contradicted speculation about interest from AC Milan. "I generally don't comment on such things. I still have a year left on my contract, I feel very comfortable and, if the other side wants it, I'm happy to be here next year," said the 47-year-old on Saturday after the 1-1 draw against Werder Bremen. The "Leipziger Volkszeitung" had previously reported that Rose was a candidate to succeed Milan coach Stefano Pioli, who the club reportedly wants to part ways with.

Rose is expected to extend his contract, which runs until 2025, in the coming weeks. Sporting director Rouven Schröder said on Saturday that he was "very relaxed" on the subject. Rose, on the other hand, emphasized that "of course we also have to talk about where we want to go and what the future holds." Leipzig are threatened with the departure of Paris loanee Xavi Simons, playmaker Dani Olmo and forward Benjamin Sesko in the summer. The latter can be bought out of their contracts via a clause.

Rose does not want another upheaval

Rose only had to cope with a major upheaval last summer with the departure of four key players. For what Leipzig now lacks, "you need continuity", said Rose. "Something has to develop, a hierarchy. The players have to be able to rely on something. That's obviously a point that's very important," said the coach. Rose came to Leipzig in September 2022 as Domenico Tedesco's successor and won the cup in his first season.

As a Leipzig man, Rose has a bonus, but there are also critical voices. RB got off to a poor start to the year, losing three times in a row and running the risk of missing out on qualifying for the Champions League. Leipzig dropped points against relegation candidates such as FSV Mainz and VfL Bochum and put in a dismal performance in the 5-2 defeat in Stuttgart.
