German handball champions SC Magdeburg will have to do without their top scorer of the season Matthias Musche for the long term. The Bundesliga club made the announcement one day after the 26:26 in the Champions League against Hungarian champions KC Veszprém. Left wing Musche suffered a ruptured right Achilles tendon after three minutes of the encounter without any intervention from the opponent.
A little later, the Magdeburg veteran returned to the court on crutches with a thick bandage on his foot. Musche has scored 58 goals in the twelve Champions League games so far and was SCM's top scorer.
This is not the 32-year-old's first serious injury. In November 2020, he suffered a serious knee injury in a home game against Rhein-Neckar Löwen. In addition to the cruciate ligament, the medial collateral ligament and meniscus also had to be stitched. He made his comeback after 13 months and went on to win the Champions League with SCM in 2023.
