FC Erzgebirge Aue have lost contact with the promotion places in the 3rd Football League with their second defeat in a row. On matchday 16, the Saxons lost to SC Verl 2:5 (2:4). In front of 5,713 spectators, the more mature visitors were convincing and deservedly won with goals from Yari Otto (9th minute), Dominik Steczyk (24th), Timur Gayet (44th), Fabio Gruber (45th +3rd) and Chilohem Onuoha (90th +3rd).
Omar Sijaric (16') and Marcel Bär (42') were successful for Aue. The home side, who had little chance overall, finished the game with only ten players: Marvin Stefaniak (74) was shown the red card after a frustrating foul.
Aue were without Ali Loune, who had caused a traffic accident under the influence of alcohol on Wednesday evening. The 22-year-old was replaced in the starting line-up by Sijaric, who immediately justified their faith by making it 1-1 with a powerful shot from twelve meters under the crossbar. Otto had put the visitors ahead nine minutes earlier after a fine combination.
Verl superior in all respects
The technically very accomplished Verlers impressed with their fine passing and often left their opponents trailing, as they did when they took the lead again. Patrick Kammerbauer crossed from the right, Steczyk was completely free at the penalty spot and finished. The equalizer was all the more surprising. Bär caught a clearance from his own half, rounded Verl goalkeeper Philipp Schulze and slotted home from around 30 meters.
But before the break, the East Westphalians took the lead for the third time with Gayret's long-range shot from 20 meters. After a mistake by Aue goalkeeper Martin Männel, who had previously prevented further goals, Gruber poked the ball over the line shortly afterwards for the visitors' fourth goal. Verl were also clearly superior after the break and missed further top-class opportunities. Substitute Onuoha scored the final goal in stoppage time.
