Chemnitz defends top position with win in Stargard

The basketball players of the Niners Chemnitz have successfully defended their top position in the preliminary round group H of the Fiba Europe Cup after the second matchday. The Bundesliga club kept the upper hand on Wednesday evening at the Polish representative Spojnia Stargard with 84:66 (34:29). Jonas Richter (18), Wesley van Beck (16), DeAndre Lansdowne (12) and Aher Uguak (11) had the biggest share in the second victory in the second group game. For the home side, which had won the first duel in The Hague with 92:89, Arguster Daniels (21), Benjamin Simons (14) and Aleksandar Langovic (11) scored the most points.

The Chemnitzers were the dominant team on the floor from the start and were 22:9 ahead after ten minutes. However, the Polish first division team was able to reduce the deficit in the second quarter to 29:32 (20th) and fought their way back to 56:57 (29th) by the end of the third quarter. The game was on the line. But with an impressive final spurt, the Saxons secured the victory. With a 17:3 run to 74:59, the Bundesliga team broke the resistance of the home team. Chemnitz allowed themselves only ten ball losses and stole the ball from their opponent ten times alone.
