The SC DHfK Leipzig handball team has recorded its fourth successive home win in the German league. The team of Head Coach Runar Sigtryggsson defeated HC Erlangen by a commanding 32:25 (16:17) after a convincing second half. In front of 4,524 spectators, Lukas Binder, Matej Klima and Viggo Kristjansson were the best scorers for SC DHfK, which is now eighth in the table with 8:4 points.
Both teams immediately found their rhythm in offense and played out an open exchange of blows. Leipzig pulled two goals ahead for the first time in the 14th minute (8:6), but were not able to hold on to the lead for long because they increasingly made technical mistakes from the middle of the first half onwards. They also revealed unusual gaps in the center of their defense. Even eight saves by the once again strong goalkeeper Kristian Saeveras were not able to prevent SC DHfK from falling behind by the break.
After the break, Domenico Ebner replaced the Norwegian in goal and saved four of Erlangen's first five shots. The Italian international goalkeeper made a total of nine saves. Leipzig seized the momentum and pulled away with a 5:1 run to make it 21:18 in the 44th minute.
Although Erlangen subsequently developed more penetration in attack, it had major problems with Leipzig's fast-paced play. As a result, the home side stretched its lead to 28:22 by the 51st minute and maintained its high level until the end. Leipzig thus notched up its ninth win in its ninth home game against the HCE since its promotion to the German league in 2015.
