Dynamo Dresden have temporarily secured the lead in the 3rd Football League table. The Saxons won their final home game of the season against SV Waldhof Mannheim 2:1 (1:0). Niklas Hauptmann scored the early 1:0 after ten minutes in front of 28,658 spectators, before Sascha Voelcke (51) scored the deserved equalizer. Jakob Lemmer slammed the ball under the crossbar from 17 meters in the 65th minute for the winning goal.
Dynamo started as expected against a badly decimated Mannheim and deservedly took the lead when Hauptmann cleverly put the ball into the goal with the help of the inside of the post. However, there was no sign of frustration at Waldhof. From then on, the visitors took control, pressing very high with six men most of the time and preventing Dynamo's attempts to make things clear with a second goal. However, the visitors were careless with their good chances.
Mannheim had more chances at the start of the second half
That changed at the start of the second half. After Samuel Abifade (50') had only hit the bottom edge of the crossbar with an unmarked shot from the edge of the box, Voelcke did better a minute later. He outpaced the entire Dresden defence in a technically demanding manner and finished to equalize.
After that, Dynamo were challenged again and did so in the style of a top team. It was only a matter of time before the hosts took the lead again. Lemmer's in-swinging shot from a full stretch shot straight over Waldhof goalkeeper Jan-Christoph Bartels. But Mannheim also remained dangerous. In the 79th minute, Dynamo goalkeeper Tim Schreiber saved from Kennedy Okpala at the highest level and was also quicker to the ball before Terence Boyd (90.+1).
