Magdeburg's crisis continues: 27:28 in Hanover

SC Magdeburg remains in the midst of a results crisis. The German double winners lost 27:28 (13:14) at Hannover-Burgdorf on Saturday evening in front of 9,900 spectators. The best SCM scorer was Omar Ingi Magnusson with nine goals. Magdeburg is now fifth in the table with six points dropped.

The SCM found it difficult to get into the game. Without Philipp Weber, Magdeburg's attacks lacked creativity and the champions quickly trailed by four goals. "We had other things in mind," warned Head Coach Bennet Wiegert in an early timeout (1:5/6th). Magdeburg reduced the deficit and was able to make the game closer (8:9/14th minute). The SCM twice carelessly missed chances to equalize, but went into the break trailing by just one goal.

The club from the city on the Elbe came out of the break well and turned the game around with a double by Gisli Kristjansson, but Hanover quickly equalized again (16:16/34). Hanover then took the lead again, but SCM then opened up a three-goal gap (22:19/47). Yet even though the club from the city on the Elbe was even four goals ahead at one stage, the home side managed to turn the game around again with a 5:0 run, as the SCM remained too inconsistent in attack (27:28/60). Wiegert called his final timeout with sixteen seconds remaining, but the move he had called did not work.
