RB Leipzig successful with appeal against fine

RB Leipzig has been successful in its appeal against a fine imposed by the German Football Association (DFB). The DFB announced on Monday that the Bundesliga club will now have to pay only 18,450 euros for the unsportsmanlike conduct of its supporters in the DFB Cup final against Eintracht Frankfurt (2-0). Initially, it had been double that amount (36,900 euros). Part of the new penalty (up to 6150 euros), the club can use for security or violence-preventive measures.

The club had not agreed to the penalty originally provided by the DFB. The appeal RB justified, among other things, that the entry controls carried out by the DFB-appointed regulatory service had been insufficient. "The club succeeded in the hearing to present its intensive efforts regarding the perpetrator investigations in pyrotechnics incidents in a form that led to a reduction of the fine," said Torsten Becker, who chaired the meeting at the DFB campus in Frankfurt am Main.

Leipzig fans had ignited eight smoke pots and five flashers at the beginning of the second half during the victory against Frankfurt on June 3, as well as shooting a rocket onto the field, as the DFB had announced. In the further course as well as after the game, another nine Bengal fires, two firecrackers and two more flashers were ignited. In the 90th minute, another rocket flew toward the field.
