The struggling regional soccer league club 1. FC Lok Leipzig is apparently reorganizing itself in sporting terms. According to a report in "Bild", Toni Wachsmuth is to become the new sporting director and relieve coach Almedin Civa, who previously held the role in a dual role. "I'm glad that we're getting such an expert. He has shown what he can do with few resources. The fact that he was in the 3rd division with Zwickau for so many years and not Jena, Erfurt or Lok or Chemnitz - that's almost a bit embarrassing for the other clubs," said president Torsten Kracht.
Wachsmuth, who was head of sport at Zwickau for a good three and a half years, is due to take up the job in the new year. Lok is surprisingly in the relegation battle this season. After 16 games, the club is only in 14th place and 20 points behind league leaders Greifswald. This season, the champions will be promoted directly to the 3rd division. Lok were crowned champions three and a half years ago, but failed in the relegation play-off against SC Verl.
Kracht wants to get there again with a new division of responsibilities. "The way the club is structured is not suitable for an ambitious regional league club," said the former Bundesliga professional. It is never good when the coach and sports director are the same person. He also doesn't know of any club that does it this way.
