The SC DHfK Leipzig has conceded its first defeat of the season in the German Handball League. On Sunday, the Saxons lost their second game at runners-up Füchse Berlin by 32:37 (17:20). Leipzig's best scorers in the East derby in front of 7011 spectators in the Max-Schmeling-Halle were Franz Semper with seven goals and Matej Klima with five.
A fast-paced game developed right from the start, in which the visitors made a number of technical mistakes in the opening spell or were thwarted by Füchse keeper Lasse Ludwig. As a result, Leipzig trailed 1:4 after just five minutes. They were particularly unable to stop world handball player Mathias Gidsel, who scored Berlin's first four goals.
Guests came close again
However, the visitors remained calm, kept up the pace and now scored easy goals from the right wing and at the back. And when Gidsel was given a longer break, Leipzig capitalized on that and tied the scores at 16:16 after 25 minutes. However, a 1:4 run shortly before the break meant they trailed again.
After the break, Leipzig's defense was barely able to stop Berlin's attack. The deficit had grown to seven goals in the 49th minute (25:32). However, the visitors fought back and closed the gap to three goals in the final period (31:34), but that was as close as they got.
