SC Magdeburg remain in the title race with victory against TVB Stuttgart. Bennet Wiegert's team beat the Swabians 31:20 (14:11) in front of 6,600 spectators in the Getec Arena on Wednesday evening. Magdeburg's best scorer was Matthias Musche with seven goals. The SCM climbed to fifth place and still has only one point more than the leading duo Melsungen and Berlin.
Red card for Häfner
The teams got off to a faulty start, with the first attacks from both sides landing on the post or next to the goal and Magnus Saugstrup only scoring the first goal of the game after five minutes. Stuttgart took the lead, but the festival of errors continued on both sides. After 14 minutes, Kai Häfner was shown the red card for a foul on future Stuttgart player Antonio Serradilla. The SCM worked its way into the game and led by five goals at one stage, but Stuttgart had reduced the deficit to three by half-time because the SCM failed to overcome its lack of concentration.
The second half also began with poor scoring from both sides, but the teams got into the game more quickly this time. SCM held on to its lead, but did not reach its normal level of performance. The Green & Reds lacked a flow in attack in particular, with many of their attacks ending in individual actions. When the visitors ran out of steam towards the end, it turned out to be a clear SCM victory.
