Dynamo Dresden have drawn the consequences of their sporting misery and parted company with coach Markus Anfang. The third-division soccer club made the announcement on Saturday a few hours after the 2-0 defeat to Viktoria Köln. Until the end of the season, the team will be coached by assistant coach Heiko Scholz, U19 coach Willi Weiße and former national team player Ulf Kristen on an interim basis.
The defeat against Cologne was the fifth winless game in a row, and promotion favorites Dresden could be knocked out of third place on Sunday. After the winter break, Dynamo were still ten points ahead of third place in second place.
"The decision was anything but easy for us. When we signed Markus Anfang, we set ourselves a common goal, which we still have firmly in mind," said managing director David Fischer. "However, we have come to the realization that the quality of the team has become increasingly rare over the course of the season and the desired results have failed to materialize."
