Third-division soccer club Dynamo Dresden lost their first competitive match of 2024 and missed out on a possible leap to the top of the table. The Saxons lost 0:1 (0:1) against SV Sandhausen on Saturday. The decisive goal was scored by Markus Pink (45.+1) in front of 25,350 spectators. Shortly before the final whistle, Sandhausen's Alexander Fuchs (88) was shown a yellow card. Dynamo could have moved into first place with a win, as Jahn Regensburg were held to a 1-1 draw by SV Verl. As a result, Dresden are second in the table and three points behind the leaders.
Dresden clearly dominated the first half and had good chances to score through Niklas Hauptmann (31') and Tom Zimmerschied (36'). However, the hitherto harmless visitors took the lead through Pink shortly before the end of the first half. SVS hardly made an offensive appearance in the second half either. The Saxons, on the other hand, had several chances to equalize. Captain Stefan Kutschke (65th/72nd) was denied by SVS goalkeeper Nikolai Rehnen, who was in good form, and joker Robin Meißner (78th) hit the crossbar.
