The Bundesliga handball club Thüringer HC has celebrated its second victory in its second away game of the season. The team of Head Coach Herbert Müller won 36:29 (19:14) in front of 1,000 spectators at cup winners TuS Metzingen and now has 4:2 points. Johanna Reichert stood out for THC with eleven goals. Jana Scheib scored nine times for Metzingen.
The club from Thuringia dominated the opening spell with its varied attacking play and led 4:1 after four minutes. The home side then got into the game better and played its part in a fast-paced exchange of blows.
The THC revealed weaknesses in its retreat and trailed 9:10 in the 16th minute. The visitors stabilized in defense in the final phase of the first half and were able to rely on the outstanding Reichert in offense, who scored nine times up to the break alone.
The Austrian kept a low profile as a scorer in the second half, but that did not matter because the Thuringians stepped up their game. Director Natsuki Aizawa shone with eight assists and was the preferred provider for pivot Josefine Hanfland, who made the most of her chances.
As a result, the THC pulled 24:16 ahead by the 40th minute. Metzingen did not give up and managed to close the gap to 28:32 in the 54th minute thanks to its dynamic backcourt players. However, Thuringia's convincing victory was never in danger at any time.
