After more than three months, Thüringer HC's women's handball team lost another point in the German league. The team of Head Coach Herbert Müller only managed a 28:28 (14:15) draw against TuS Metzingen on Wednesday evening and so missed out on its eighth win in succession.
Kathrin Pichlmeier secured a draw for the home side in front of 943 spectators with a brilliant shot from the backcourt with one second remaining. Johanna Reichert was the best scorer with twelve goals. THC improved to second place in the table with 21:5 points.
The Thuringians fluffed the opening phase. They were too passive in defense and did not create enough open shots in attack against the aggressive defense of the reigning cup winners.
The club from Thuringia, who had played in the European League in Elche, Spain, three days earlier, left a tired impression. After a timeout, however, the home side mobilized all its strength once more. Dinah Eckerle was on top form in goal and the THC now made consistent use of its chances in attack. Pichlmeier equalized to make it 26:26 in the 58th minute and also countered Metzingen's 28:27 lead at the end.
