At today's 64th district party conference of the CDU Dresden, the election manifesto for the 2024 local elections on 9 June 2024 was discussed and adopted.

In recent weeks, members have had the opportunity to submit amendments to the draft. There were over 120 proposals in total. The range of submissions was wide - from an "e" to be added to completely revised text passages, the members of the CDU Dresden participated actively.

In the run-up to the district party conference, the amendment committee, chaired by Jan Donhauser (Mayor of Education), evaluated the submissions and either accepted or rejected them. The 128 members present then decided whether or not they agreed with the commission on the respective point. If the proposal was rejected, the submitters had the opportunity to request a justification and were then able to make a counter-speech to convince the members present to vote against the commission's decision. Dr. Markus Reichel (Member of the German Bundestag and District Chairman of the CDU Dresden) emphasized that it was wonderful to see how the discussions proceeded in an appreciative manner despite the different points of view. "This is democracy in action," he said.

The commitment of the Junge Union led by Johannes Schwenk, who actively defended a large number of submissions together with Bruno Felgentreu (JU Dresden) and also showed a willingness to compromise on individual formulations in order to achieve the goal, was remarkable. When asked, Schwenk said: "As the Junge Union, we are particularly pleased that we were able to convince the CDU with two key motions: Promoting and strengthening Dresden's club culture and a clear commitment to the positive significance of the European Union for the developing Dresden." Christian Hartmann (49), who chaired the meeting, commented on the decision as follows: "The CDU Dresden is now the party of club culture", the small twinkle in the eye could be heard in the undertone.

After just over 3 hours, all members present approved the amended local election program at 1.58 pm, followed by great applause. The Dresden CDU can now start the election campaign for the Dresden City Council.
