Dresden, July 23, 2024 - Today, Morpheus Space, a leading company in the space industry, opened its first production facility in Dresden. The facility will be used to manufacture the second-generation propulsion systems, which are more sustainable and safer.
Daniel Bock, CEO of Morpheus Space, emphasized the growing importance of space for various critical areas such as weather and climate monitoring, bank transfers, military, agriculture and disaster prevention. "Space is highly contested and militarily highly important," said Bock, pointing to the problem of increasing space debris. "It is becoming increasingly important to have safe and sustainable propulsion systems, and this is precisely the domain of Morpheus Space."
Bock thanked the investors, politicians and, above all, his team for their daily commitment. "Morpheus Space is Saxony's largest space company," he said with a smile.
Saxony's Minister President Michael Kretschmer praised the young talents who studied at TU Dresden and have made a significant contribution to the company's development. "Aerospace from Dresden is a great fortune for Saxony," said Kretschmer. He emphasized that Saxony is an important business location, although the GDP per capita is still 10,000 euros below the German average. Kretschmer pointed out that Morpheus Space's business model is exciting, especially in light of a law that requires satellites to be regularly removed from space and replaced with new ones. "Morpheus Space produces the propulsion systems required for this in impressive quality," he added
Martin Kelterer, COO of Morpheus Space, emphasized the importance of the quality of the propulsion systems. "If the propulsion system of a satellite fails, it is lost," said Kelterer, who has a background in the automotive industry. 1.5 million euros have been invested in the new production facility and 15 new jobs have been created. 100 GO-2 propulsion systems are to be produced here every year.
The opening of the production facility is a significant step for Morpheus Space and underlines the company's ambition to play a leading role in the space industry. "Per aspera ad astra - through hardship to the stars," said Kelterer, emphasizing the company's consistent pursuit of its goals.
Background and history
Morpheus Space was founded to develop innovative and sustainable solutions for the space industry.
