The airline Eurowings is canceling the connection from Leipzig/Halle to Düsseldorf. The reason is the deteriorating economic conditions for flying in Germany, according to a company spokesperson. The economic viability of individual routes is no longer given. The "Leipziger Volkszeitung" had initially reported on this.
The connection will officially be discontinued from the beginning of next year. As the route is not scheduled to be flown around the turn of the year anyway, the last flight will already take place on December 22.
The Lufthansa subsidiary Eurowings is complaining about a "massive government increase in the cost of flying to and from Germany", most recently due to the increase in air traffic tax. From January, the government location costs for the departure of an Airbus A320 from Leipzig will have more than doubled compared to 2019, according to the company.
For Leipzig/Halle Airport, the cancellation is a further blow. It was only at the end of November that Lufthansa announced that it would be removing the connection from Leipzig to Munich from the summer of 2025.
