Poland and Saxony want to cooperate more closely in the area of economic development. The aim is to support the foreign trade activities of small and medium-sized companies in both countries and to promote cooperation projects and partnerships, announced Wirtschaftsförderung Sachsen GmbH (WFS) during a visit to Warsaw. A regular exchange of information to explore common priorities and develop measures for joint activities also serves this purpose.
Kretschmer expects new impetus for Saxon-Polish cooperation
The WFS traveled to Warsaw together with Minister President Michael Kretschmer (CDU). "Saxon-Polish cooperation and exchange across borders is something that unites us. It is very important to me that we have good relations and also good economic contacts with our neighboring regions," emphasized Kretschmer. The cooperation that has now been agreed will provide new economic impetus in the Free State and among Poland's neighbors.
Cooperation to be extended to all Polish regions
According to WFS Managing Director Thomas Horn, Poland has been one of Saxony's most important trading partners for many years. "The regional focus is on our neighboring regions in Lower Silesia, the Lubusz region as well as Opole and Upper Silesia." The new cooperation with the Polish Investment and Trade Agency will enable business contacts for Saxon companies to be established in other regions of Poland. "This is a win-win situation for both partners."
Poland is one of Saxony's top five foreign trade partners
Poland is one of Saxony's five largest foreign trade partners. In 2023, Saxony exported goods worth 2.66 billion euros to Poland. The main export products were semi-finished goods, automotive and mechanical engineering products, electrical engineering and iron, sheet metal and metal goods. Imports to Saxony amounted to 3.23 billion euros and mainly consisted of automotive and mechanical engineering products, electrical engineering products and milk and dairy products, according to the WFS.
