A new building at the Heinrich-Braun-Klinikum in Zwickau is to offer patients and staff better conditions. The hospital was dependent on help to finance the project.

The Heinrich Braun Hospital in Zwickau has opened a new building costing around 36 million euros. It combines pulmonary medicine and geriatrics under one roof and offers better conditions for patients and staff, the hospital announced. It houses a geriatric therapy center, a sleep laboratory, an endoscopy department and nursing wards. Patients are due to move into the new rooms in the coming weeks.

The new building was financed from the hospital's own funds and a loan. The state also contributed around one million euros, it said. The construction project was a feat of strength in view of the general cost increases and the difficult financial conditions for the hospitals, explained Managing Director Rüdiger Glaß. The city of Zwickau, as a shareholder, had therefore supported the hospital with a loan.
