On April 1, construction will begin on a new section of road connecting the new Löwitz-Quartier district with the Berliner/Roscher Straße junction. This important measure will also connect the high school in the area to the road network and significantly improve accessibility.
An essential part of the project was the completion of a new bridge over the Parthe by the district investor. The extension stretches 56 meters from the new bridge to Berliner Straße. Sidewalks optimized for both pedestrians and cyclists will be laid alongside the road. The road will have markings for two cycle lanes and three lanes for motor traffic, which will increase capacity and safety.
In addition, the city is renewing the road surface of Berliner Straße in the intersection area in order to cope with future traffic volumes. A temporary traffic light will be replaced by a fixed installation and adapted to the new traffic routing, which will guide road users safely.
The infrastructure measures also include the installation of new street lighting and the relocation of various supply lines. This work will result in a full closure of the Berliner/Roscher Straße junction until mid-July (overview map), but pedestrians and cyclists will be guided safely through the area.
In order to give the area an inviting entrance, a listed obelisk on Berliner Straße will be relocated. Both obelisks will serve as the entrance to the Löwitz-Quartier and are a striking feature of the area.
The planned work should be completed by August 2025 and integrate the Löwitz-Quartier into the city's transport network in the long term.
