Saxony's health authorities are registering fewer and fewer respiratory diseases. For the second week of April, the State Investigation Office reported a 37 percent drop in cases of influenza and a 17 percent drop in respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) infections. However, with 46 coronavirus cases, six more were reported than in the previous week - their number is "still at a consistently low level".
According to this, 398 new influenza cases were reported from April 7 to 13, 229 fewer than in the previous week. Young and younger schoolchildren and adults are particularly affected. In addition, 399 cases of RSV infections were reported, with young children still being the most affected.
Tens of thousands of cases and 400 deaths in total
In the current flu season from the beginning of October last year to April 13, 44,129 cases of influenza were registered nationwide, as well as 15,318 coronavirus infections and 7,503 RSV infections, according to LUA statistics. A total of 421 people between the ages of 6 and 99 died, most of them from a SARS-CoV-2 infection (221), 13 from RSV - exclusively older adults - and 187 from influenza.
