For the first time, the Monument Preservation Prize is awarded for the whole of Saxony. The winner has restored the magnificent mirrors in the state rooms of the Dresden Residenzschloss.

The first prize of the first Saxon Monument Preservation Award goes to the Chemnitz-based craft business Denkmalpflege Paul Lorenz for the restoration and reconstruction of the magnificent mirrors in the state rooms of the Dresden Residenzschloss. "Crafts businesses are the true guardians of our cultural heritage," said State Secretary Barbara Meyer at the award ceremony at the "Denkmal 2024" trade fair in Leipzig, according to a press release.

The two second prizes were awarded to the restorer and master bricklayer Bernd Bubnik from Trebsen for the restoration and reconstruction of the stucco ceilings and plaster walls in the Kössern hunting lodge and Fuchs+Girke Bau und Denkmalpflege GmbH from Ottendorf-Okrilla for the restoration of the interiors in Georgium Palace in Dessau-Roßlau.

Monument Preservation Prize awarded for the whole of Saxony for the first time

The Leipzig, Chemnitz and Dresden Chambers of Crafts are awarding the Monument Preservation Prize jointly for the whole of Saxony for the first time. The Leipzig Chamber of Skilled Crafts has already been awarding a monument preservation prize since 1994. Regional Development Minister Thomas Schmidt (CDU) is the patron of the new prize. According to the announcement, the prize is awarded to craft businesses that have made outstanding achievements in the field of monument preservation.

A high-ranking panel of experts made up of representatives from the field of monument preservation and the craft sector reportedly assessed the applications. They assessed the quality of the craftsmanship, the degree of difficulty of the work and the contribution to the preservation and appreciation of the cultural heritage.

In addition to the first and second prizes, three commendations and three special prizes were awarded, according to the press release.
