Southwest Saxony is once again a magnet for talented young musicians from all over the world this year. According to the city administration, 161 young musicians from 36 countries have registered in the violin and viola categories. China is particularly well represented with 31 participants, followed by Germany (23), Japan and South Korea (15 each) and France (11).
For the first time, Brazil and Georgia are represented in these categories. In addition, the Philippines will be taking part in the competition in Markneukirchen for the first time.
Recognition, prize money and non-cash prizes for the musicians
The instrumental competition in Markneukirchen is scheduled to take place from May 8 to 17. Young musicians between the ages of 15 and 29 will compete against each other and showcase their skills in front of an international jury. The best participants will not only receive recognition, but also prize money and non-cash prizes. Cash prizes of 31,000 euros await the winners. All competition games are open to the public again this year.
The renowned competition is being held for the 60th time. The town of Markneukirchen, internationally renowned for its musical instrument making, can look back on over 350 years of tradition in this craft.
