Saxony has been purchasing works by young artists since 1992 to support up-and-coming talent. Purchases made in 2024 can now be seen in an exhibition in Berlin.

Saxony is once again presenting a selection of new works from its art fund at the State Representation to the Federal Government in Berlin. They were purchased from artists last year, according to the Dresden State Art Collections, which manages the art fund. In total, works by 32 artists amounting to around 170,000 euros were acquired.

The current exhibition, which can be seen from next Monday (January 6) until April 13, includes paintings, photographs, prints, object art, films and installations. "These art acquisitions are primarily aimed at promoting young generations of artists who are still at the beginning of their careers and should be encouraged to continue on their path," it said. However, established representatives are also given recognition in this way.

These promotional purchases by the state have been in place since 1992. The works come from artists who have their sphere of activity or residence in the Free State. Recommendations are made by an advisory board of experts. Purchases are made via the state's cultural foundation. To date, more than 1,000 works of fine art of all genres have been collected in this way. A selection has been shown in Berlin every year since 2011.
