The VVO is running many additional trains on German Unity Day and at the weekend. Passengers can look forward to extra services and historical highlights on rail services.

To mark the Day of German Unity and at weekends, additional trains will be operated in the direction of Saxon Switzerland and on the Müglitz Valley Railway. "We want to get day-trippers to their destinations with enough space on the trains," said Lutz Auerbach, Head of the Transport Department of the Upper Elbe Transport Association (VVO). In addition to the special trains, the regular S-Bahn trains are to be reinforced with an additional carriage. Two steam trains will also run daily on the Weißeritztalbahn.

From Thursday (German Unity Day) up to and including Sunday, the Weißeritztalbahn will run four times a day from Freital-Hainsberg to the spa town of Kipsdorf. In addition to the regular train, a historic Deutsche Reichsbahn train from the 1960s will also be in operation, according to the railroad operations manager of the Sächsische Dampfeisenbahngesellschaft (SDG).

Additional trains to Saxon Switzerland will also be in operation on Thursday and Sunday. These run between Dresden Central Station and Schöna and stop at all stations.

The "WanderExpress" departs from Dresden Central Station for an excursion to the Eastern Ore Mountains. Passengers can travel from the state capital to Geising and Altenberg in just 66 minutes.

For more detailed information on travel times, visit the websites of the respective transport companies or the VVO and Deutsche Bahn (DB) apps.
