The refurbishment of the Elster Valley Bridge in Vogtland is progressing. Trains can now once again run on both tracks over the historic structure.

After extensive construction work, trains are now running again on both tracks of the more than 170-year-old Elster Valley Bridge in Vogtland. Deutsche Bahn (DB) announced that the work on the new deck had been completed. This also included the installation of new tracks, overhead lines and points. "We have adapted the historic bridge to the requirements of modern rail operations and made it fit for the future again," explained DB project manager Elke Hering.

Now, the piers and arches on the listed bridge will be repaired by the end of 2025 and more than 36,000 bricks will be replaced with custom-made products based on historical models. This will take place during ongoing operations.

The bridge on the Leipzig-Hof railroad line crosses the Weiße Elster near Jocketa. It is considered the little sister of the nationally renowned Göltzschtal Bridge and is the second largest brick bridge in the world. It was built between 1846 and 1851, is 68 meters high and 270 meters long.
