Lorna Prenzel is the 30th Dresden Stollen Girl and thus the new representative of the famous Christmas cake. "I am very proud that I can now represent it for a year," said the 22-year-old, who is training as a baker in the state capital and is in her third year of training, at her presentation on Tuesday. She will also be promoting the delicacy nationwide.
"Today brings many moments together for me," said the Elbe native. "Dresden is my home and is linked to countless memories from my childhood." She has made many friends on her travels in recent years, "to whom I also like to show our region on hikes and thus always get new perspectives." The office opens up "yet another new perspective" for her.
Stollen girl hikes and can do taekwondo
The Dresden Stollen Protection Association praised the young woman, whose hobbies include hiking and the martial art of taekwondo, as "enterprising, self-confident and with a great respect for the craft". The impetus to learn it herself and later take it out into the world came during a hike over 4,000 kilometers from Mexico to Canada on the Pacific Crest Trail after graduating from high school in 2022. This made her realize "how highly regarded German bakeries are abroad and how much they are appreciated".
The association has chosen a Dresden Stollen Girl every fall since 1995. The candidates must have good grades at vocational school, brilliant specialist knowledge and a great passion for Dresden's number one Christmas cookie. During her term of office, a Stollen Girl has a good 50 mandatory appointments, in the past including at the ITB travel trade fair, for the traditional pastry, whose origins date back to the 14th century.
