The mood among companies in Lusatia remains subdued. According to the IHK, a turnaround is not in sight.

The business situation of companies in Lusatia is stagnating at a low level. Every fifth company in Lusatia rates the situation as poor, according to the 13th economic report from the Dresden and Cottbus Chambers of Industry and Commerce. Compared to last fall, the balance of good and poor assessments has even fallen further from 12 to 8 percentage points. 52 percent rate their business situation as "satisfactory", while 28 percent rate it as "good". The reasons for this are international crises, declining demand at home and abroad and high costs.

Around 500 companies from industry, construction, trade, services and hospitality in the districts of Görlitz, Bautzen, Oberspreewald-Lausitz, Elbe-Elster, Spree-Neiße and the city of Cottbus took part in this year's autumn survey.

"Companies need better framework conditions in order to remain competitive in the future. The necessary measures include less regulation, accelerated approvals, the clarification of unresolved issues regarding the energy transition and the promotion of skilled workers," emphasized Lukas Rohleder, Managing Director of the Dresden Chamber of Industry and Commerce.

For André Fritsche, Managing Director of the Cottbus Chamber of Industry and Commerce, growth stimuli are urgently needed to boost companies' investment activity. "Well over half of Lusatian companies are not investing or are reducing expenditure. Only by attracting industries of the future can value creation in the region be increased in the long term."
