Federal Employment Agency sees good opportunities for new jobs for employees in the solar industry in Saxony despite the crisis. Shortage of skilled workers.

Despite the current crisis in the German solar industry, the Federal Employment Agency sees good opportunities for new jobs for employees in Saxony. Mechatronics engineers, electronics technicians and specialists in energy technology often work in the solar industry, explained the head of the regional directorate, Klaus-Peter Hansen, when asked by the German Press Agency. These are professions in which there is a shortage of skilled workers. There are currently only a few suitable applicants, meaning that vacancies cannot be filled for a long time.

The manufacturer Solarwatt announced at the beginning of the week that it would cease production of solar modules in Dresden in the summer. Managing Director Detlef Neuhaus explained that the aggressive cut-throat competition in the industry left no other choice. According to the information provided, around 190 employees will be affected. The industry has been complaining for some time about massive pressure from cheap imports from China. The Swiss company Meyer Burger has also discontinued module production in Freiberg after the coalition government in Berlin failed to agree to the hoped-for aid - so-called resilience bonuses. According to earlier reports, several hundred employees were made redundant.

How quickly employees in the solar industry find a new job also depends on their professional flexibility and mobility, explained Hansen. Despite global challenges, companies in Saxony continue to hire employees - especially when it comes to the sought-after skilled workers. He referred to the microelectronics and semiconductor industries, among others.
