The number of training contracts in the East Saxon trades remains stable. In the new apprenticeship year, 502 women and 1,660 men started an apprenticeship here, according to the Dresden Chamber of Crafts. The total number of 2,162 contracts represents an increase of four percent compared to the previous year (2,081). In 2022, 2,171 women and men had started an apprenticeship in the skilled trades. According to the chamber, the training market in East Saxony is defying the current economic downturn.
Chamber: Companies are meeting their demand for skilled workers
Even in economically weaker times, skilled trades companies are thinking long-term and relying on training to meet their demand for skilled workers, explained Andreas Brzezinski, Managing Director of the Dresden Chamber of Skilled Crafts. In view of the economic outlook, however, politicians must do more to support companies.
In the ranking of the most popular training occupations in the Dresden chamber district, motor vehicle mechatronics technician is at the top with 366 newly concluded apprenticeship contracts. This is followed by plant mechanic for sanitary, heating and air conditioning technology (152), electronics technician (143) and carpenter (134). The rarest training occupations include glass finisher, cooper and printing media technologist - with one apprentice each.
More than 80 occupations can be learned in the Dresden chamber district
The skilled trades in Germany provide training in 130 occupations, and more than 80 can be learned in the Dresden chamber district - from A for plant mechanic to Z for two-wheel mechatronics technician. The Dresden chamber district includes the districts of Meißen, Bautzen, Görlitz, Saxon Switzerland-Eastern Ore Mountains and the state capital of Dresden.
