According to the police, there have been traffic obstructions in the Chemnitz, Central Saxony and Erzgebirgskreis districts since 5 a.m. due to the farmers' protests. Tractors and other agricultural vehicles have already occupied several slip roads on highways 4, 14 and 72 in Chemnitz, the district of Central Saxony and the Erzgebirgskreis, the police announced on Monday morning. If possible, these areas were to be bypassed until around 5 p.m.
In addition, participants in the rallies had already gathered at several junctions on federal and state roads in both districts. The police intend to carry out a large number of traffic safety measures. Gatherings away from the farmers' protests will also be secured. The Chemnitz police department will have a total of around 600 of its own officers and those from the Saxon riot police at its disposal. A police helicopter will also be deployed.
The police have set up a citizens' hotline from 6 am to 8 pm. The emergency number 110 should only be dialed in an emergency situation. Citizens should be prepared for ongoing traffic obstructions until the evening hours. It is recommended to drive carefully and be prepared for sudden obstructions on the roads
