The trekking huts have been renovated and the bivouac sites are ready. The season on the Elbe Sandstone Forest Trail has begun. There will soon be a sixth forest hut along the route.

The new trekking season begins in Saxon Switzerland. As of now, the Forststeig Elbsandstein trekking route and numerous accommodation options along the route are officially open to visitors again, as announced by the state-owned company Sachsenforst.

There are a total of six bivouac sites and five trekking huts along the route. The Forststeig Elbsandstein trekking route is signposted throughout and the compost toilets at the overnight stops are also ready for use,

Renovation of sixth hut planned

The National Park and Forestry Administration of Sachsenforst is planning to renovate a sixth forest hut near Cunnersdorf this season. The opening of the "Katzsteinhütte" is scheduled for the 2026 season at the latest.

The so-called forester hikes on the trekking route will take place on April 5 to mark the opening of the season. All eight hikes on offer are already fully booked.
