The state election campaign in Saxony is followed by the constitution of parliament and the formation of a government. From the perspective of Saxony's bishops, a new approach is also needed in society.

The bishops of the Protestant Church of Saxony and the Diocese of Dresden-Meißen, Tobias Bilz and Heinrich Timmerevers, are calling for a new way of dealing with each other in the wake of the state elections. In a joint statement, they said that politics and civil society need people who get involved, tolerate different positions and seek constructive solutions.

Bilz and Timmerevers also appealed for "misanthropy and extremist and nationalist ideas to have no place in our country".

New state parliament requires responsible dialog

With a view to the newly elected state parliament, which reflects the diversity of Saxon society, the bishops called for "responsible dialog". Behind the results are people's hopes "that their concerns will be taken seriously", they explained.

No party can claim to represent the will of the people alone. In addition to a clear stance, MPs would therefore also need "a strong willingness to talk and compromise".
