The BSW state board in Saxony votes unanimously in favor of exploratory talks to form a joint government with the CDU and SPD. Peace should remain a central topic in the further talks.

The Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance (BSW) in Saxony is ready for exploratory talks with the CDU and SPD to form a joint government and continues to see peace policy as a central issue. "In the exploratory talks, we will therefore ensure that a coalition agreement contains our peace policy principles. We will not enter any government without a clear commitment to peace policy," said state chairwoman Sabine Zimmermann to the German Press Agency.

On Thursday evening, the BSW board voted unanimously in favor of entering into official exploratory talks. At the same time, the state executive committee of the Social Democrats voted in favor - but not unanimously. With 15 votes in favor, there were two abstentions and two votes against. The CDU has yet to vote. As things stand, the exploratory talks could begin next week. Previously, there had been several introductory talks, which resulted in a position paper.

BSW wants fundamental changes in Saxon politics

The talks had shown that something could fundamentally change with the influence of the BSW in Saxon politics, said Zimmermann. The CDU and SPD had shown a willingness to change on the topics of finance and migration that would not have been possible without the influence of the BSW. "In terms of media policy, the BSW has anchored the interests of the broad majority of people in Saxony in the results paper after rejecting any increase in fees for public broadcasting."

The party chairwoman emphasized that she was very satisfied with this interim step. But the truth is also: "It is nothing more than a good start."
